@seekwolf1 You’re thinking of the AN-94, which is not a Kalashnikov-pattern rifle. You’d probably run into some trouble bringing a modern military firearm that’s main selling point was a 1900rpm two-round burst mode into the American civilian market, too.

@mpkorovesis The russians didn’t even allowed a FMS (Foreign Military Sale) of the AN-94.

The full rail upper reciever is a nice improvement, I wonder how it shoots? :)

:D lmao, i love how the “improvements” are basically same things we had for the RK-95 in finland a decade or so ago already xD apart from the 7.62×51 caliber. and railmount(was with RK-95 but with a variation of it)

This thing definately looks better than the An-94. I hope the Russians make this their standard service rifle.

@mistbooster There’s more improvements then that. The bolt mechanism and trigger assembly have been improved according to what I’ve read. The RK-95 is an excellent rifle, but the AK-12 will most likely be better.

@NDL993 I highly doubt it’s as advanced as the AN-94 though. It’s unique action basically allows it to be an assault rifle and possibly a designated marksman rifle. However, it might possibly be much cheaper to produce than the AK-74M while still being a reliable rifle. Anyways, I can’t wait for more information (like rate of fire) about this rifle.

@BattlefiendHrush AN-94 is not as much advanced, as it’s sophisticated. The gun internals are really complicated, and it takes quite a bit of training for a soldier to maintain this rifle. Actually double piston designs were made to provide good control in auto fire, without the sophistication of the AN-94 action. Despite being cheaper, more simple and more reliable than the AN-94, while still being more accurate than the AKM/AK74, these designs were abandoned

@BattlefiendHrush The reason was such, that the difference in price did not justify the difference in performance (an AK-74 provides similar to superior accuracy when compared to the M16, if both are fired at the same distance in full auto). This AK-12 is supposed to deal with the 3 remaining issues the AK design had unresolved after the introduction of the AK-74: poor ergonomics, short sighting line and floppy receiver cover. It also provides compatibility with western-built accessories.
